Volunteer
Wollangarra is built on, and sustained by, a community of passionate volunteers.
Wollangarra staff are volunteers who have committed a full year of their time to living and working at Wollangarra. In addition, we take one-off or occasional volunteers on most of our programs, and rely on occasional volunteers for community and fundraising events throughout the year.
Whether you are looking to gain or build on existing Outdoor Education experience by taking young people hiking into the mountains OR whether you want to learn a bit about off-grid homesteading – volunteering at Woll is a wonderful way to get a taste behind the scenes of Wollangarra and become a member of this vibrant community!
Volunteer on a Program
Each year Wollangarra provides hundreds of young people with a life changing experience made possible by volunteers.
As a one-off or occasional volunteer Outdoor Leader, you become part of the Wollangarra Staff team for the duration of your visit. You will participate in the Homestead based program, assist with leading a hike in the Victorian High Country, and participate or co-facilitate debriefing sessions with young people as they unpack their experience before departure.
Program volunteers must be over the age of 18 and hold a valid Working With Children check. A full information pack and forms will be provided prior to your volunteering dates.
Volunteer at a Community Event
Wollangarra holds a number of community events throughout the year. Our events are primarily either fundraisers to help support our work, or work parties to harness community labor for the completion of our bigger jobs.
Work parties are held on the Wollangarra Flat, and fundraisers are held at various locations. We welcome volunteers at most events. Volunteer positions at events may come with perks such as free entry or meals, and places are limited, so be sure to book in early.
Volunteer on the Property
Wollangarra is not only an outdoor education centre, but a working off-grid farm property.
We raise chickens and sheep for eggs and meat, have a large vegetable garden, and old style hand tools and human labour to build and maintain fences and buildings, rather than relying on machinery and powered tools.
We welcome volunteers who wish to give their time contributing to the upkeep and improvement of the property, and provide food and accommodation in exchange for your time.
Volunteer as Staff, Director or as a Council Member
Wollangarra’s staff and directors are what keeps the place running from year to year. Working at Wollangarra is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and most of our governing council are ex-staff members who had profound experiences working here and wish to continue to contribute in an ongoing manner.
